This section covers cities and sites around Madrid which can be reached in an hour or two. Many of the cities around Madrid, most notably Toledo, were, in they day, more important than Madrid itself, and are fascinating from a historical, architectural and artistic perspective. Although all of the sites can be visited within a day, we would certainly recommend spending more time in the more important cities listed below. All are accessible by the Cercanias (commuter) trains, buses or of course, by private transport.
